Innova-tsn joins the ETSI Computer Science School of the UPM for another year at RootedCON 2026
UPM’s Higher Technical School of Computer Engineering brings computer science to young people at the 16th edition of RootedCON
The Higher Technical School of Computer Engineering of the Technical University of Madrid participated once again in RootedCON, Spain’s main cybersecurity congress, held in Madrid, with a workshop day aimed at sparking interest in computer science among young children
The event was held on Saturday 7 March and coordinated by teacher Elena Villalba Mora, together with final-year students from the school and graduates from the centre. In total, 52 boys and girls participated in the workshops, with a notably high female participation, which reached 54%, a figure significantly higher than the representation of women in university computer science studies.
This initiative is part of Make IT!, the summer technology campus of the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineering, which every year transfers some of its activities to RootedCON to bring computer engineering closer to the younger generations. During that day, participants could design, programme and experiment in different areas of the computing world through practical and playful workshops inspired by the activities of the summer campus. The proposals developed there include:
- Augmented reality games with Scratch.
- Design of mobile applications with Marvel.
- Robotics with Lego Mindstorms y Arduino.
- Virtual reality with Delighthex.
- Building machines and mechanisms with Lego.
All the activities combined an educational and recreational approach, allowing boys and girls to have fun while learning basic design, programming and technology concepts in different languages and platforms.
With this participation, the ETSIINF reaffirms its commitment to early technology dissemination, promoting computing and cybersecurity vocations and contributing to reducing the gender gap in STEM from an early age.
