A coffee with AI: meeting between OdiseIA and AESIA

Last 22 October we had the privilege of participating, as institutional partners of OdiseIA, in an exclusive meeting held at Fundación Pablo VI.

On behalf of Innova-tsn, our colleague Carlos Larrea, Business Development Manager, attended the event in the framework of the strategic agreement we have with OdiseIA, reinforcing our direct involvement in the conversation on the responsible governance of artificial intelligence in Spain.

The main guest speaker was Ignasi Belda Reig, director of the Spanish Artificial Intelligence Supervisory Agency (AESIA), and the most valuable aspect of the meeting was not only the content, but also the approach: realistic, open and far removed from the superficial or alarmist discourse that sometimes surrounds AI.

Some key ideas we got from the various interventions of the attendees:

1. The EU AI Act is not intended to stifle innovation – no trying to “stem the tide” – but is aligned with other product regulatory frameworks, such as those for medical devices, automotive or lifts. It is essentially about ensuring confidence in what is coming to the market.

2. Aspects remain to be finalised both in Europe and in Spain. In our country we are awaiting the approval of the Draft Bill for the proper use and governance of AI to clearly define market supervisory authorities, taking into account sectoral supervisors and transfers to the autonomous regions.

3. The European Commission has developed and will continue to develop guidance and guidelines to deploy the AI Act in a consistent manner across the EU. Therefore, it is important to note that there will not be additional regulations per country beyond the adaptation of the AI Act —these guidelines will be aids to compliance, not new rules or additional obligations.

The atmosphere was particularly enriching: energy companies, technology companies, consultancies, law firms, universities, associations and freelancers took part. A close format, with many openly shared questions. It is clear that we are all looking for certainties, but also that there is a real desire to build a responsible AI framework without holding back its transformative potential.

Innova-tsn greatly values this kind of space. To be there, hearing first-hand from institutional decision-makers, and actively contributing to our vision, allows us to continue to drive AI solutions with impact and accountability.
